Since I got the update, I've been constantly asked for the activation key as well as I get the wee message in the bottom right corner "Windows 8. So my question is, do I have to buy the activation key even though I have the original Windows 8 since I bought the laptop?
Does that mean my Windows is not original? This is really frustrating as it keeps showing up.. This does not usually happen with the free update. Did you have win 8 pro with media center when you bought the laptop? Most new computers have windows 8 not pro, no media center and are not updated to pro when using the Store to download the free update. The free update reads the embedded key and does not ask for it. The Pro Pack has its own key that you use to activate.
Check your invoice email if you bought the pro pack.
